Make a Handprint Bat
Make your very own bat using your handprints!
What you need
- Black or brown card
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Googly eyes (optional) or white card or paper
Instructions
1. Create the wings
- Draw around each hand onto the black or brown card.
- Cut out your handprints – these will be yours bat’s wings.

2. Create the body, face and ears (and feet if you’d like!)
- Draw out the bat’s body and ears onto your card – we recommend drawing out an oval with two triangles sticking out for the ears. Why not get inspired by one of our ‘species on the edge’ bats? Give your bat big ears like the brown long-eared bat, or add on some feet with claw-like toes to the bottom f your oval, like the Daubenton’s bat (it uses its big hairy feet to catch its prey!).

Or keep things simple, and use the common or soprano pipistrelles as your model.

- Cut out your body and, if you have them, add googly eyes just below the ears. If you don’t have googly eyes, cut out two circles from some white paper and stick them on using your glue.

3. Finish off your bat
- You’re almost there! Place the two hands you’ve cut out wrist to wrist. Take your bat body and apply glue to the middle of the back of the body. Now, place your body over your bat wings to stick the wings onto the back.
- And there you have it! Your very own handprint bat!
